Contest : Re-create Lord British's "D&D #1"
This is pretty neat. Richard Garriot is working on a new Ultima-based MMO, "Shroud of the Avatar", but he has put forward a contest where the entries will re-create his proto-game "D&D #1". Check it out here (includes BASIC listing in PDF format):

And a little write-up about this at Time.com:

Neat. Thanks for sharing, I'd never heard of that before.

Neither did I. But looks intriguing, and I absolutely loved playing Ultima back in the day.

That's pretty cool, if I were better at programming I'd attempt it myself.
I always loved Ultima. The original one. Never was able to get into the following ones... I did play Ultima Online when it first came out a bit, but it was a horrible sewer of PVP Griefing.

Unknown RPG. My Holmes/d20/BX/OD&D/1e crazy house rule OSR mashup.

Keep in mind this game was not much like even the earliest Ultimas... more like a primitive 'Rogue-like' game.

Wow, something to actually want to program. Awesome!

New thread on K&KA about this game, with photos from a museum exhibit in Texas showing DND1's Teletype and Garriott's original Apple II:

I knew about Garriot's D&D game. Somewhere in the deep, unplumbed abyss of my hard drive, I think I might even have an image of it, ready to play on an emulator.
