NEW DCC #4 Encounters v1 Netbook

Post by Kellri »

Hot from the pdf pipeline...Dungeon Designer's Netbook #4 - Encounters. Plenty of old school tables and charts for in-game use or just casual inspiration. This is version 1, with text-only, 1.2mb. Enjoy. As usual, comments and criticism welcome.

Dude, this is way cool. Just downloaded it along with CDD#1-3 and old school puzzles too. Great work and thanks for sharing.

This is a work of love :D

It makes the creation of a few NPC very easy. A simple d6 will even give all the spells the MU knows at the moment of the encounter.

Really, I'm impressed.

Very nice! For some strange reason I found when I downloaded the files from orbitfiles it chopped off the .pdf file extension but that was easily fixed. Thanks for these! I can see all of these DCCs coming in handy during my games.

Cheers,

Another amazing piece of work. So much to like, it's hard to know where to start. I particularly liked the "Settlement Record Sheet" near the end, great idea. Thanks Kellri. :D

How come the PDF comes out as a blank file? I can open it by manually choosing "Open with Adobe Acrobat 8.0" but it takes like 2 minutes longer this way.

You have to rename it as a .pdf

CDD#4.pdf instead of CDD#4

I thought of one thing that would make this excellent document even better... bookmarks! ;) I'm in the process of bookmarking my copy. I'm about half way through the document now.

Edit: I've finished bookmarking the various sections of this document. Wow, it has helped me realize just how impressive this pdf is! Nice work, Kellri. If you want a copy of my bookmarked CDD #4 let me know (no sense doing the work if it is already done ;)). I can always upload it for download.

Cheers,
Tim

D'oh! [smacks self on forehead]

That's how you change it! I tried to save it as a pdf from within the doc, which it would not do. Much simpler to "Rename" it by right clicking on the icon, without opening it at all...

Thanks!

I've spent the morning time looking through CDD#1-4 and just want to say again how awesome these volumes are... well done man!

So what's upcoming for CDD#5 or is it too early to speculate?

I finished skimming through the entire document today and was just plain 8O 8O 8O ; for lack of better words. How long did it take you to compile all that info? How long did it take you to write it up? How long did it take you to pdf it?

I'm also interested in all the sources you used to make many of the tables?

Critique.... Random Dungeon Generation as per dmg with expanded tables, more tables for caverns and tunnels (perhaps some of the tables from Vic Broquard's article "To the Center of the Oerth").

There's so much to digest you've given me heartburn. :P (I mean that in a good way)

I love the typesetting (classic and easy to read). Very few if any tabulation errors (some #s were slightly off but I've seen products produced by big gaming companies that have done far worse).

I love that you left open slots for treasure types so there is room for personal customization.

Has anyone printed this out, punched holes in it for a 3-ring binder? Wow and double WOW again!

Hmm... Dungeon Geomorphs? City Geomorphs? High level play? Magic item creation and recharging? The mind reels with possibilities.

Done, and done. The holes intersect the boxed outline that's on each page, but it doesn't block any of the text.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all of the great comments. I've been working on parts of this book for almost 2 years, off and on. It was originally to be #1 in the series, but other projects were much easier to complete.

I've made a few changes to the file, adding an index, a new form (NPC Cards), and tidied up a few formatting issues. For those of you who have already printed a copy, you'll only need to print the last 4 pages to stay up to date. Remember, you may need to rename the file as a pdf. Here's the new link.

Is it me looking at it wrong, or is that a Chaotic Evil Druid in the Sages section (#1)? I'm assuming something in error I'm guessing... :?

This is in CDD#1? I just skimmed through it & I have no idea where this Sage section is that you speak of. What page? PDF page, or actual printed document page?

CDD #4 the Sages section. The whole thing is awesome. I just saw CE and NG for what looked like Sage alignments in the Sages section on Page 23 - PDF page.
